Chiropractic
-
Chiropractors are registered allied health practitioners that focus on all the components of the musculoskeletal system.
Chiropractic care can involve:
Soft tissue and trigger point release
Joint mobilisation and adjustments
Exercise prescription for strength and rehabilitation
Nutrition advice
Healthy lifestyle modifications
-
Chiropractic care and physiotherapy both focus on improving musculoskeletal health and enhancing physical function, but they may differ in their approaches and techniques.
Similarities:
Goals: Both aim to alleviate pain, improve mobility, and promote overall wellness.
Assessment: Each profession utilises a thorough assessment process to identify issues related to movement and alignment.
Patient-Centred: Both practices emphasise personalised treatment plans tailored to individual needs.
Differences:
Techniques: Chiropractors are provided additional training to perform spinal and joint manipulation to help potentially increase mobility. In addition, chiropractors and physiotherapists can prescribe exercises, perform manual therapy, and modalities such as heat or ice to enhance rehabilitation.
Focus: Chiropractic care often centres around the spine and its impact on the nervous system, while physiotherapy addresses a wider range of physical impairments, including post-operative rehabilitation and chronic pain management.
-
A chiropractic adjustment is a treatment technique aimed to target the spine or other joints with the aim of improving movement and function.
The adjustment is often accompanied by a distinctive "cracking" sound, which is caused by the release of gas bubbles from the joint fluid.
The primary goal of a chiropractic adjustment is to restore proper movement of the affected joints, alleviating pain and enhancing overall mobility. Following an adjustment, patients may experience immediate relief, though some may feel mild soreness similar to that experienced after exercise.
Chiropractors may also recommend follow-up visits or complementary therapies, such as stretching or strengthening exercises, to maintain the short-term benefits of the adjustment and support long-term health.
-
Not to worry at all. In our opinion, adjustments are just one piece of the puzzle and we recognise that there are many different tools that can help you feel better.
If you do not wish to get adjusted, please let your practitioner know and they will use a different approach.
-
